Fantastic Technology

I have seen a few videos over the past couple of weeks about various sorts of technology now available and ones which could soon be available. And it really made me think ‘The Jetsons would be so outdated’. It is incredible how some of the stuff that we saw in the movies and cartoons in the 80s and 90s is now some of the most basic technology being used in the world. One good example that comes to my mind is from the ‘Back to the future’ series. I forget which part it was but basically Marty Mcfly (Micheal J Fox) has gone into his future and sees the future him video conferencing with some people in Japan from the lounge of his house over a LCD TV in the States. The idea back then probably seemed absurd to some. When I saw it I remember just being fascinated by it. Today we have Skype available on Internet TVs with the Skype App inside the TV.

Skype is just one example. There are tons of other things happening. iPads and iPhones for example I am pretty sure were not conceivable in the mid 90s as such a common thing. They are rapidly getting there now. (Not just iPads and iPhones but all such smart phones and tablets). The kinds of technology being used by companies for marketing gimmicks. Augmented Reality, Projection Mapping, Interactive Sensors, Digital Laser etc etc. It is all brilliant and makes you just wonder if we have achieved so much in such sudden leaps then just imagine where we will be in the next 5 – 10 years. Ok maybe more than that like 15-20 years.

I am attaching some youtube links for some of these wonderful things below. You really need to check it out:

1. Fanta Chase, Projection Mapping, Dubai

2. Nat Geo: Augmented Reality

These are just a couple of examples. You can explore youtube for more amazing technology based videos. Search for Google’s project glass. Something they are working on and would be amazing.

Time to say put the ‘Jetsons’ in the ancient history category and stop being amazed by ‘3D’ movies. We are getting far beyond that now.
