Just something to share..

Its amazing how things tend to unfold themselves. Till yesterday i was sure that a guy’s obvious pretensive nature and tendency not to be trusted was almost lost with a couple of my friends and who thought he was an angel. Well ok, not an angel perhaps but , he was a good friend nonetheless. Today however, he has shown his true colours by being himself only. I will not go into the details of it. But it would be an understatement if i simply said i was glad. I am more than happy that deceit has been uncovered through its own ugly head. It gives guys like me hope.

World Cup 2007: A Legacy To Be Left Behind

February 25, 2007 sammy wiseguy Leave a comment

The grand prize of international cricket, starts of next month in the Carribean. Yet again with a different format of how things will proceed, the world cup undoubtedly holds a promise of much excitement and fireworks, especially on the back of a cricketing season which has seen many high scoring matches and great feats including the freak show match of 850+ runs between Australia and South Africa with the latter chasing down a target of 434 against the Australian Juggernaut.

Along with that, the world cup is not singly favoured to be one by any one or 2 teams outrightly as it has been in the past , mostly by Australia alongwith South Africa. The asian giants of Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka have also been there with contention. But this time around, Australia, aren’t coming into the world cup, with a coat of invincibity, but rather on the back of conceding 2 of the biggest run chases to the Kiwis. And ofcourse the embedded memory of the 434 to South Africa. Australia, South Africa, England are the main contenders in my opinion, with Pakistan, being as unpredictable as ever, and from a year which has see a lot controversy for the team, will remain a dark horse. India, Sri Lanka, Kiwis and the Windies also all have a good chances of pulling it off.

What is even more interesting is that , almost all teams , have amongst their ranks , cricketing greats who are undoubtedly playing in their last world cup, and what would be better than to leave behind a Legacy with winning the grand prize.

Two in particular, Inzimam, and Lara, will both be leading their teams as well. And there should be no doubt that they would give and arm and leg , to hand up the bat on terrific high. But the list doesn’t end there. There are others as well.

Tendulkar , the worlds most achieved ODI and Test Batsmen with an aggregate of more than 20,000 runs in both forms of the game, would want to add to his record the World Prize. Lara hasn’t won the world cup either, although he does have the Champions trophy on his resume!

The Australians have more than one people playing their last world cup. McGrath who will retire after the world cup, has already made it to being a cricketing legend and his stellar performance with the ball in 98% of the matches.. will live in memory for a long time to come. Ponting , not right up there as a legend , but one of the greats no doubt. He would like to win his 3rd world cup, and the 2nd as captain. That indeed is a prize to cherish.

The Kiwis, the only player I can mention from them is Fleming. The best captain i have ever seen , given the resources he has had at his disposal, this man has time and again gotten extraordinary results out of his men. It will truly be a swan song of an end if he could achieve the great feat.

The South Africans, Kallis and Pollock. Undoubtedly the best South African crickers in history. Pollock like McGrath has always been stellar with the ball and at times damaging with the bat as well. Same goes for Kallis, he has been one of the great assets of the South Africans, both with the bat and the ball.

For Pakistan, as i already said, Inzimam, already a world cup winner from ‘92, leads his team under somewhat similar circumstances. Coming from a bad away series to SA (then Imran Khan led from a bad series to the windies). We could very well be without our pace spearheads , Shoaib Akhtar and M. Asif. ( Then we were without waqar). And whats more is we are nowhere one of the main teams in contention, dark horse perhaps but not the main team in contention. (In 92 we had a undistinguished run in the group stage, and had it not been for the weather on our side, we would not have made it through). Also of mention is M. Yousaf , who too might be in his last world cup. He has achieved fame as one of Pakistan’s cricketing greats, a stalwart in the lineup, and a man who broke the great Sir Viv Richard’s record last year , with 9 centuries in a single season, and most test runs scored in one season.

Lara, also mentioned before, a man who holds the 2 highest individual totals in test cricket. The most stylish batsman and one who is a menace to ball at. One of the few batsman not too much pressured by the likes of McGrath and Warne.

So as you can see, there are a lot of stakes for a lot of great players. Winning and ending their careers on a high, will truly be magnificent. I can see a lot of passion in the coming two months, and great matches. My money is on the South Africans this time, but my heart is ofcourse with Inzi and his men, Go TEAM PAKISTAN!

The Valentine’s Day Special

February 18, 2007 sammy wiseguy Leave a comment

Spring is in the air , and a young man’s fancy turns to thoughts of love, especially on this fine day of February , the 14th , Valentine’s Day. Something we have all heard before. Something most of us have probably pracitced some time or the other. And well for all you women out there seen the result of. Everybody’s after the sacred heart symbol on this day. The card shops, the bakery’s, the tv channel’s and the radio even.

Italian couples scream at each other a lot, and if I can trust the BBC, English couples quip cleverly at each other in measured tones, then smile wanly at each other. And in some cases, just pure contempt, as would be the case with Mr.Fawlty, not that i recall seeing a Valentine’s episode on that show. Korean husbands are always annoyed about something, while their wives fret about some family matter that seems to piss the husbands off even more. The Indians do a lot of singing, and all the neighbors break into house to do back-up dance numbers. Irish wives bat around their husbands and verbally abuse them, so the men crawl away to the pub to escape them and comisserate, that is until they make the classic mistake of agreement abouth the other’s wife only and then they bat out the other’s eye man style.  Or so atleast the Tv has told me reliably for all of the above.

Recently i also heard on 96 FM , the customs of White Day and Black Day , both performed on the same day as valentine’s. White day is when in response to your valentine’s, a man recieves a box of white chocolates in return. And Black Day is for those men who do not get anything at all. And because of that , they have Black Sauce and Noodles at the end of the day to mark their non recieving day. Urghh , if one could only put a hold to the imagination as to what the ‘black sauce’ might be. Both custom’s i think are chinese.

Well anyway, coming back to the old country, well worldy history wise new country but still, my country and its bunch of neo rocking , burger king edward kee olaad pretenders. Well i wont say much to them on that, who knows some people might think of me the exact same. THey would have the chocolates ready, the red baloons, the wax hearts scented to perfection. And ofcourse there would be the emotional attachment of the card and the odd poem.

What exactly is Valentine’s DAy that has a lot of people for a lot of different backgrounds running wild about it behind there hearts ? I don’t know how many know the actual history of this day , but i will venture with the version that i know of.

It all began with this Preist who at a time when the ruler disallowed marraiges to take place, wed people. And let these people celebrate love as they thought it should be celebrated. And was beheaded or hanged for this. The priest’s name was St. Valentine, thus Valentine’s Day. The day of love.

And well i guess ever since then, lover’s of the world unite on this day, to show each other their love. IT is celebrated as a symbol of love. In my opinion that is all it is, a symbolic day. Simply a symbolic day designed as a commercial tool for the sale of candy bars, heart chocolates, dinner for two at a resteraunt overflowing with the colour red and ofcourse the florists. Still nice thou, nothing to deny that. Well, i hope all you lover boys and lover girls had a happy, naughty valentine’s.

An Interesting Conversation

February 17, 2007 sammy wiseguy 3 comments

An atheist Professor of Philosophy speaks to his class on the problem science has with GOD. He asks one of his
new students to stand and…..the following conversation takes place:

Prof: You believe in God?

Student: Absolutely, sir.

Prof: Is God good?

Student: Sure.

Prof: Is God all-powerful?

Student: Yes.

Prof: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God didn’t. How is this God good then? Hmmm?
(Student is silent.)

Prof: You can’t answer, can you? Let’s start again, young man. Is God good?

Student: Yes.

Prof: Is Satan good?

Student: No.

Prof: Where does Satan come from?

Student: From…God…..

Prof: That’s right. Tell me, Son, is there evil in this world?

Student: Yes.

Prof: Evil is everywhere, isn’t it? And God did make everything. Correct?

Student: Yes.

Prof: So who created evil?
(Student does not answer.)

Prof: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don’t they?

Student: Yes, sir.

Prof: So, who created them?
(Student has no answer.)

Prof: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son…Have you ever seen God?

Student: No, sir.

Prof: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?

Student: No, sir.

Prof: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelt your God? Have you ever had any sensory perception of God, for that matter?

Student: No, sir. I’m afraid I haven’t.

Prof: Yet, you still believe in Him?

Student: Yes.

Prof: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your GOD doesn’t

exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student: Nothing. I only have my faith.

Prof: Yes….Faith. And that is the problem science has.

Student: Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

Prof: Yes.

Student: And is there such a thing as cold?

Prof: Yes.

Student: No sir. There isn’t.
(The lecture hall becomes quiet with this turn of events.)

Student: Sir, you can have even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don’t have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can’t go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.
(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)

Student: What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn’t darkness?

Student: You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light bright light, flashing light….; but, if you have no light constantly, you have nothing; and its called darkness, isn’t it? In reality, darkness isn’t. If it were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn’t you?

Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?

Student: Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Prof: Flawed? Can you explain how?

Student: Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death; a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can’t even explain a thought; it uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood, either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now, tell me, Professor. do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.

Student: Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?
(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realise where the argument is going.)

Student: Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even
prove that this process is an on-going endeavour, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?
(The class is in uproar.)

Student: Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor’s brain?
(The class breaks out into laughter.)

Student: Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor’s brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

(The room is silent. The professor stares at the student, his face unfathomable.)
Prof: I guess you’ll have to take them on faith, son.
Student: That is it sir… The link between man and God is FAITH. That is all that keeps things moving and alive.

The Truth About Marraige

THE TRUTH ABOUT MARRIAGE – From a Man’s perspective

Marriage, it is the ultimate proclamation of Love that a man and woman share with each other. It is a statement to the world that these two are prepared to live their lives together, through thick and thin, till death do them part. It is the unity of love .

That’s how the world would define marriage. But now lets just take a man’s perspective.

Their definition of marriage follows somewhat the same idea:
Marriage means the binding of two souls FOREVER. It means that they will stay together TILL ONE OF THEM DIES. In short marriage is the institution where a man loses his Bachelors degree and woman gains her Masters.

Another definition for marriage uttered in some part of the world, is this:

Getting married is very much like going to a continental restaurant with friends. You order what you want, then when you see what the other fellow has, you wish you had ordered that.

HOW IT ALL BEGINS ?

Normally your happily married couple will tell you their story of how they got married. We met in the park, fell in love at first sight, and got married.

Ask a man how he got married, and you will get stories like these:

A man inserted an ‘ad’ in the classifieds: “Wife wanted”. Next day he received a hundred letters. They all said the same thing: “You can have mine.”

When marrying, people need to be prepared. The bride must accept the fact that she is about to leave her parents, and start a new life, with another person, start her own family. And basically adapt to all the changes that are about to come

When a man prepares for marriage, he must realize he is about to support a new person, start a new life, give up his right of the closet, and that he is always wrong!!

He must also prepare four rings, rings which will symbolize his feelings for his true love.

There is the engagement ring
The wedding ring
The suffe-ring
And the endu-ring

On Parental Responsibility

Bringing up kids is the job of both the parents. Mothers are usually nurturing of their children, bringing them up, taking care of their basics and making them into the perfect little gentlemen or lady.

But that does not mean that the husband doesn’t do anything, he contributes to their learning. Just take a look at these 2 examples.

A little boy asked his father, “Daddy, how much does it cost to get married?” And the father replied, “I don’t know, son, I’m still paying for it.”

Young Son: Is it true, Dad, I heard that in some parts of Africa a man doesn’t know his wife until he marries her? Dad: That happens in most countries, son.

And just talking on the fact that people know each other before getting married, here are some other incidents:

After a quarrel, a wife said to her husband, “You know, I was a fool when I married you.” And the husband replied, “Yes, dear, but I was in love and didn’t notice it.”

At the cocktail party, one woman said to another, “Aren’t you wearing your wedding ring on the wrong finger?” The other replied, “Yes I am, I married the wrong man.”

Marriage needs three important things:

1. Understanding each other
2. Always being helpful
3. Never letting there be a dull moment

Faith and Science, not versus

February 16, 2007 sammy wiseguy Leave a comment

Faith’ and ‘Science’ have had an adversarial symbiosis over the last more than fifty to hundred thousand years: it were not ‘Faith’ and ‘’Science’ then – more like ‘Early Man’ coming to grips with ‘Divine Signs/Natural Phenomena’ through the median interpretation of prophets and visitations by Angels. Particularly in the Eurasia landmass, more so in the ‘fulcrum’ or ‘crucible’ of ‘religious insight’: what is known as the ‘Middle East’ today.

Muslim and Greek Thinkers, Philosophers and Men of Letters, held sway over a wide swathe of potent knowledge-discovery. It was the age of experimentation, demonstrable actualization of physical phenomena and enlightened understanding. They conjectured on the vast arrays of hypotheses and theorizing bred of this enlightenment – and clashed with the ‘divine’. Unfortunately, Man dared to suppose the descent of the supreme ability of ‘creation’ – and stumbled!

It was the beginning of ‘fantasizing’ and ‘presumptive’ illusion. ‘Faith’ was consumed in the inferno let loose by imperious advances and gains in aspects of knowledge from ‘physical’ and ‘natural’ realms. Truly, the last one hundred years – more so the latter half of the 20th Century – have seen the diminishing of ‘mind’ and ascendancy of ‘provenance’; the conjectural hypothesizing, demonstrable experimentation and creative intellect. Man dared to assume this ‘creativity’ as possibly ‘creation’-ability! Man’s inherent ‘firouniat’ presumed to be able to ascend to the heavens through this power, and challenge the ultimate of ‘Faith’ – GOD! There is, after all, the truth that:
Hum ney jaa kar dekh liya hai. hudd-e nazzar sey aagey bhi,
Ra’ah-e guzzar hi ra’ah-e guzzar hain, ra’ah-e guzzar sey aagey bhi

The Essence of Faith

Faith, regardless of any particular religion, is basically the collection of religious experiences, understanding and acceptance. Whether Islam, Jewish or Christianity, Faith is the fundamental foundation of our reality. Faith being that there is an Omnipotent Being i.e. Allah, the Creator of this universe and the natural laws which make it to work and function.

Our religion, Islam, is based on the following five fundamentals: these set the entire direction and basis for the faith by which we live, and thus by which we are given a certain idea of our life’s destiny and direction. These are:

· Tawheed – (Oneness of God)
· ‘Adl – (Justice)
· Khatam-e-Nabuwwat – (Finality of Prophet Mohammad [PBUH])
· Imamat – (Guidance)
· Qiyamat – (Day of Resurrection)
With Faith being founded on these five fundamentals, understanding the rest of the world, its different systems and functions, then become somewhat clarified. It gives us an insight as to where we humans come from: where this World, or for that matter, the entire Universe came from. It gives us the knowledge and comfort that one Almighty Allah, Creator of all, does exist and it is to Him we have to answer one day. The quintessence of this is in the fact that humans were not supposed to delve deep into the mystery of creation of life. It is our purpose to discover and prosper in the world we live in right now. Having complete faith upon the above five fundamentals then gives us comfort in this essence.
The existence of Allah has proof all around us. The world we live in, the animals and the plants that exist on this planet, the solar system, the universe: everything is undeniable proof of a Supreme Being, a Supreme Creator. That Creator can only be ONE, Who is ALLAH. It is there in the systems that are apparent and seen; and also there in those which are invisible to us. Take for example the habitat of any animal. We can see and observe its way of life, the way it satisfies its very basic needs like hunger and thirst. But can we truly observe its brain work? Given that animals do not have the power of rational thought. Then where does the ultimate knowledge of what all they have to do to eat, drink and basically survive comes from? The only answer is Allah. This is also true for humans. Where does our power of rational thinking come from? The following Quranic Verse also gives credibility to this argument:

“Behold! In the creation of heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day, there are indeed Signs for men of understanding.” [Aal-e Imran 3:190]
This verse clearly tells us that the system of this world, the entire universe, and the way there is day and there is night, in the creations that exist in front of our very eyes, these are all signs which point towards an Omnipotent Being i.e. Allah.
Faith gives the start to all science; but it certainly does not intend for it to in any way question itself, or the Creator, or take its place.

The Advent of Science

Science exists because humans have a natural curiosity and an ability to organize and record things. Curiosity is a characteristic shown by many other animals, but organizing and recording knowledge is a skill demonstrated by humans alone.
The earliest writers were the people of Mesopotamia, who lived in a part of present-day Iraq. Their writings show that when writing first appeared, the Mesopotamians already had a basic knowledge of mathematics, astronomy and chemistry; and that they used symptoms to identify common diseases. During the following 2,000 years, as Mesopotamian culture became increasingly sophisticated, mathematics, in particular, became a flourishing science. Knowledge accumulated rapidly, and by 1000 bc the earliest private libraries had appeared. [Our belief of the existence of the ‘Dead Sea Scrolls – the Tabernacle’ or ‘The Tablets of Deuteronomy’, lying at the bottom of the Dead Sea, are an indication of ‘writing’ and ‘language’ as early as nearly 5,000 – 10,000 years BC]
As said before, science exists because humans have a natural tendency to find out, to know. In short, humans have an undying thirst for knowledge. This, with the passage of time, collectively fell into two main areas of science, ‘inductive sciences’ and the more recently developed and looked into, ‘matter sciences’.
In the beginning when the world was not as yet developed, made human thinking concentrate more on the working of the world and the environment we live in. The branches of science at that period which evolved were physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, astronomy and so on. With the march of time, and onset of modernization, many more fields of discovery and areas of scientific study evolved.
In the 1800’s the thirst of knowledge flourished on a different plane. A highly controversial issue has since then been opened i.e. the creation and the origin of species. In hindsight, it appeared to be questioning the existence of God. This was not the first time that science pointed a finger at the altars of religion. In the 17th century too, the Church went against science, the matter then not being a dispute on the existence of God so much, as a fundamental power struggle to establish credibility of ‘belief’ against scientific theories based on study. The particular example of Galileo stands out. He questioned the ‘belief’ of a flat world, based on religious dogma, against the apparent spherical shape of the Earth, based upon scientific calculations, which cost him his life.
In more recent times, the cloning controversy has played up. Science constantly trying to prove or disprove the existence of God and attempting to gain complete knowledge of creation. Perhaps no event in science/bio-technology, has caused more uproar and discussion on ‘faith’, ‘belief’ and ‘ethics’, than the cloning of Dolly the sheep by Scottish scientists. In today’s world, once again that side of ‘science’ which tries to equal itself with God has come about. People tend to give more credibility to science than they do to their ‘faith’ and ‘spirit’, forgetting that Faith is how they got to science in the first place!
However, since its advent ‘science’ has truly helped to develop our existence in this world, much as religion(s) intended for it to. Or, rather, how Allah intended for it to. Allah does not help those who do not help themselves. Science allows us humans to help ourselves live a better life every day. It goes against our faith when it tries to equal God.

Conclusion / Recommendations

In order to conclude we must go back to the topic of the thesis, ‘Faith and Science’, which started out as ‘Faith versus Science’. That is only a notion that has been played up by those who presume that science has all the answers and re3medies of life. There is no ‘Faith versus Science’. There is FAITH, and then there is SCIENCE. The two are not contradictory to each other, but rather are complementary. Faith comes, and then comes the advent of science, bringing with it a better and more fundamental understanding of many of the laws of nature and life, as created by the Omnipotent Being.

In his book, ‘A Brief History of Time’, Stephen Hawking has mentioned that he is trying to formulate an all-encompassing theory which could explain everything in the universe; and hence could prove that God does not exist. He was however forced to confess that God does exist because otherwise he could not explain who made the laws. He however concluded that God made the laws and since then the universe is running on the laws; in short God does not have much to do with the day to day working of the universe. The point that I am trying to make here is that we are just a ‘bug’ living in this mighty universe trying to figure out ‘what’, ‘why’ and ‘by whom’.

Science realizes that only because you do not see or feel something, does not mean that it does not exist. The only limitation is that it is subject to its own ego, a self-constructed hypothetical state of being all knowledgeable. The important thing is that the quest for truth should not cease. Allah has given us enough signs of His Existence.

To end I would just like to make the following observations.

1. Belief in God is based on Faith.  Science is based on empiricism and logic: after some point in its cycle, Faith provides the base.
2. Faith is belief in the mysteries that are unseen and unheard. That is what Faith is supposed to be. It is there in religion, on God and it is there in science, when there are scientific assumptions made.
3. Faith and Science are not working against each other; they are supposed to be working one after the other on the same plane.

A day to remember

February 11, 2007 sammy wiseguy 5 comments

Approximately 6 and a half years ago, i think the first of my memorable days took place. It was a series of comical events that led to this day. Well actually it wasn’t exactly a series of comical events, more of sad events, which i guess from the neutral eye in a low budget comedy would induce a few light laughs. Anyway, it was an event none the less. Before i go on, i would like to say that this event is one to remember not out of the more pleasant memories, but more of the excruciating memories. Memory nonetheless.

Hence, 6 and a half years ago, my cousin was getting married. He is i think 12 to 13 years elder to me. Thats not the important part. I had just moved back to Karachi a couple of months before the wedding. I was a 15 year old kid back then. And i was coming towards the end of the new excitements that come as part and parcel of discovering the birds and the bees, which started when i was 11. Again, not important. To contiue with the original story, I was a 15 year old kid back then. The wedding season was on. There were dholkis. There were practices. There were the getting togethers. THe perfect setting for anyone to fall for someone, especially in the Infatuated way. Enter, Susan (true name shall not be taken for legal purposes) my first cousin from my father’s side. Lets just say i had developed a long time crush on her. I mean the crush had started a year before when i was in Karachi before going to Pindi for year and then moving back. Moving back to the story once more. The crush, the wedding season, the crush intensifiying, and then the stupid DARE and the BORED cousin. This incident as it goes on to be a good lesson, NEVER trust fate when your cousin is BORED !! terrible things may happen.
Anyway coming back to the story yet once again. After all the wedding functions had taken place, the family dinners were taking place. My other cousin ( the one who got bored and i will just call him wam) obviously knew about the entire crush situation. Come the night before our dinner for the family, the cousins went for a movie. Where wam and myself after much deliberation and argument over soemthing i dont remember now ended up in daring each other to let Susan know of the entire crush situation. Well , guess what , wam was 15 as well and we were both stupid. OK , I was stupid and he was a EVIL, human being who gets more evil when he is bored. In my stupity i wrote an anonymous email, and in his boredom he told the relevant cousins that the email was from me. And how do i get to know this ?
Well wam was kind enuff to come the next day on our dinner day i.e. and warn me of the arised situation. I was getting ready , when he came and told me the sequence of events and well had to 5 or 7 times before i actually realized he is not joking. I wanted to kill him. But i had other things on my mind. Like , my uncle coming after me with a shotgun. Or my father finding out and throwing me out of the Family (ofcourse these were all not realistically going to happen but i was 15 and had seen way too many indian movies back then)
Well i gathered courage to make it till the destination for the dinner. Now since my parents had thrown the dinner, i was supposed to be at the reception to guide everyone. Perfect! This threw me into even more thoughts of me getting killed or disowned or i dont noe all things that a 15 year old can think of. The guests started coming. It started with wam’s family. His sisters gave me the old stink eye. Then my aunts. And a few abroad guests. And finally, the family i had been dreading through out. The family i thought would come in absolute fury and rage. Susan and the family came. I felt sick to the stomach. My aunt and uncle came in and the greetings took place as they always do, and well i could not detect any new emotions within them of anger towards me. Then Susan came, and along with her the little sister, Tina, who was my age. Susan simply went with a cold chill , and tina …. oh boy, she was having the time of her life in deep amusement. She went by with a very evil giggle. Which continued well into the dinner, along with a few subtle jokes.  All throught out the dinner , i could feel the cold chill, the sick worms inside my stomach, and for the first time in my life, my absolute disregard for any interest in the dinner. Then through my cousin , Wam, a message was put across to me. I was to be talked with. A lecture no doubt. WEll, to get on with it, and wrap it up, the night was ended with a cold blast from hell from Susan, the continous blabbering gigglish torture from Tina, and well WAM. !

I can never forget that day. Ever. It might seem lame to some of you out there. BUt honestly it was just a day i cannot forget.

From The Third Man

Don’t be so gloomy. After all it’s not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love – they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.

Solidarity Day ?

February 5, 2007 sammy wiseguy 2 comments

5th February, Kashmir Day. A day on which our nation marks as one for solidarity for the plight of the people in Kashmir. It is indeed a great show of brotherhood towards fellow Muslims , and all in all , fellow human beings. However, going beyond the key word of Solidarity on this day lets just take a look at how it is.

We, to show solidarity towards the people of Kashmir, mark 5th February as a holiday. There is no productivity in the nation. There is no business open. We all sit at home, at the luxury of our homes, and relax like on any other holiday. This is our showing of solidarity. Well then God help our friends and allies should they ever be needing any show of compassion, sympathy from us. I mean truly speaking, do we actually believe that , by simply declaring a holiday, we are helping the Kashimir people. By sitting at home, instead of doing something for the Kashmiri people. A person sitting on a bus stand all alone with a sign protesting the viles and cruelties would be doing more than us.

What does making 5th February a holiday by the name of Kashmir Day achieve ? Mere symbolic gestures will not help anyone’s cause. And infact its harmful to our nation as well considering the amount of holidays that are there in a year as it is. World over people move towards being more productive, but no, Pakistan has other ideas. After all we are a Major Ally in the ‘War on terror’.

A better way to show solidarity (if it is actually meant to be shown) would be to say that on this day, the 5th of February, we will give the day’s earnings and proceeds to help the cause of actual tangible support for those suppressed people. Either way we will not be earning, but atleast this way maybe we could actually be doing more than just symbolic naming and holiday marking and end up sitting at home relaxed (this bit is just the privelleged class, for the poor class or the lower middle class its simply a loss of business).

Solidarity day is just one of the few things which are illogical in the great fabric of thinking in our nation. There are other things like these if thought on logically and sincerely, could maybe help move our nation towards much greener pastures.

Some things i want to say… just for the heck of it i guess..

  • The guy who keeps his temper under wraps most of the time, is the worst one to be next to when he does lose it
  • Time spent wishing is time wasted , just go out and get what you want
  • Dont always pawn of your problems or troubles in life on the shoulders of others , everyone has their own to handle
  • Relationships are the most complicated package of human emotions bundled into one messed up package
  • Fags can be straws for juices at times for funzies!
  • Heroes aren’t always the glory boys that we have made them to be
  • Unfortunately, no place is safe anymore, whether populated or isolated. Everyone is danger of being a victim of a lunatic
  • Sacrifice has become an illusion, cause no one wants to sarifice. No one is willing to sacrifice
